Canberra Seed Savers aims to inspire, educate and empower people in the Canberra region to grow, save and share food seeds. Our main way of doing this is through education and outreach – which basically means, teaching people and talking to people! We’re always out and about in the Canberra and regional community. 🌱 We run workshops that build confidence to grow from seed, to save seeds and to engage with seeds in ways that are fun and educational for kids. We offer workshops for all ages and levels of gardening experience. We aim to make seed saving accessible for everyone and to inspire people in our community to give it a go! 🌱 We run events to connect with our community, to inspire more people to try seed saving and to build our network of local seed savers. We run regular events for our Seed Saving community including monthly Seedy Sessions, Autumn and Spring Seed Swaps; and an annual International Seed Day celebration (think festival of seeds!). At different times of the year, we may even host film nights and garden tours.
🌱 We attend local festivals and markets with our fabulous volunteer-run stall, to increase awareness of seed saving and connect more people with seed saving information. On any given weekend, you’ll probably see us at a festival or market, selling locally grown seeds, chatting about seed saving and distributing locally developed seed saving guides and information. Through our market and festival stalls, we increase awareness of seed saving and connect more people with seed saving information. We also accept seed donations and distribute seed from our Living Seed Bank (locally grown by our community).
Volunteering
If you like the sound of our education and outreach activities, you can join our Education & Events Working Group. We welcome volunteers of all levels of experience and knowledge to join. Whether it’s chatting to interested community members at a market stall, setting up marquees and tables for a Seedy Saturday, helping to produce educational guides, or running workshops, there’s many opportunities to get involved. We are 100% volunteer powered and we need you! Send us a line or just tell us in person at any event.
