Workshop: Introduction to Seed Saving

Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 hour

Why save seeds?

Seed saving is simple, fun and for everyone! It can be as simple as letting a lettuce plant get old after a long, happy life, and produce flowers. A single lettuce seed will produce a lettuce plant which, if left to grow old, will produce thousands more seeds! Saving seeds is budget friendly and a great way to meet other local growers but there’s many more reasons to give it a go. Seed saving is a millenia-old practice that is the basis of our agriculture and our food system.

What we cover

Learn a bit of theory of how plants make seeds, how humans cooperate with plants to produce the plants we cherish and rely on, and the basics of seed saving principles and practices.
