Education & Events Working Group

Canberra Seed Savers aims to inspire, educate and empower people in the Canberra region to grow, save and share food seeds. We run workshops that build confidence to grow from seed, to save seeds and to engage with seeds in ways that are fun and educational for kids; and we run events to connect with our community, to inspire more people to try seed saving and to build our network of local seed savers.

Get Involved

We welcome volunteers of all levels of experience and knowledge to join our Education and Events team. Whether it’s chatting to interested community members at a market stall, setting up marquees and tables for a Seedy Saturday, helping to produce educational guides, or running workshops, there’s many opportunities to get involved. We are 100% volunteer powered and we need you!

Our workshops are designed, organised and run by CSSC volunteers who bring a wealth of gardening and seed saving experience and love to share their passion for seed saving. You don’t need to be an expert geneticist or botanist, just to be passionate about communicating your experience of growing food and saving seeds in the Canberra region. We’re always dreaming up new workshop ideas so if you enjoy communicating and creating engaging educational and inspirational experiences, and have an idea for a workshop, get in touch! We provide support and training for volunteers and if you’re curious and would like to come along and observe before volunteering, just let us know.

Our range of events is broad and varied and there’s many ways to contribute – from helping to make pizzas or putting up the marquee on International Seed Day to providing information and advice (or just having a friendly chat) on a market stall, to organising activities for Seedy Saturdays and much more! We always need people to organise, provide logistic support for, and run our events. It’s always fun and interesting, and a great opportunity to meet other gardeners and seed savers. Training and support provided and there are a range of roles and tasks for people of all abilities and levels of experience.

Throughout spring, we get more requests to have stalls at markets, festivals and open days than we can handle! We need willing volunteers to be on stalls, selling seeds and books, talking seedy stuff, helping set up and pack down. If you think you’d like to give it a go and can spare two to three hours on a weekend day this spring (or ideally more, and join our ongoing stallholder crew), please get in touch to find out more. We’re great company, and you can take home seeds! If you’re new, we’ll make sure you’re matched with more experienced seedy stall-warts.
