Canberra Seed Savers is grateful to work in collaboration and cooperation with many local organisations in the Canberra region. From our partnership with Powell’s Stockfeed who have donated Martin’s potting mix to the Community Seedlings Program for the last 3 years, to our collaboration with Southern Harvest Farmers’ Cooperative who host our Living Seed Bank in part of their temperature controlled shipping container and also sell Canberra Seed Savers Seeds from their shop in Bungendore, we work with a range of local folk and we love contributing to our community and being able to rely on their support. We believe that community communication, cooperation and interdependence means community resilience.
Our Community Partners & Friends
Canberra City Farm Canberra City Farm – Our vision is the community living in harmony with the environment
The beautiful Canberra City Farm has been hosting many of our events and our regular Tuesday morning Living Seed Bank Working Group since 2023. You can also find an honesty box seed stall with Canberra Seed Savers seeds inside the LESS building at the farm. We regularly collaborate with CCF on events, workshops and are currently planning the development of an Educational Seed Garden onsite. CCF was the first home of Canberra Seed Savers, supporting us through our initial development in 2016 and 2017. You can find the Canberra City Farm at 2 Dairy Road Fyshwick.
Southern Harvest Farmers Cooperative Southern Harvest – growing local and regional food communities
We love our local farmers and their cooperative has generously provided a climate controlled storage facility for our Living Seed Bank since 2023. The SH Farmers Cooperative also supports Canberra Seed Savers through hosting our stalls at events, our seeds at their local produce store and restaurant in Bungendore (corner of Malbon and Ellendon Sts.) and promoting the work that we do with their extensive network of local growers. The Canberra region has many amazing food producers and Southern Harvest is the best way to connect with them.
Canberra Environment Centre Canberra Environment Centre
The good folks at the Canberra Environment Centre provided a home for Canberra Seed Savers for many years, from 2018 to 2023, when they were moved on from their longstanding location at the ANU. Although we’re no longer co-located, you’ll often find us running workshops or Seed Swaps at the new Canberra Environment Centre offices at Gungaderra Homestead in Mitchell (a short walk from the tramline!) and harvesting seeds from their lovely community garden.
Canberra Food Coop Shop and Cafe The Food Co-op – CBR, est. 1976 – Food for people (and the planet), not for profit!
The Food Coop hosts the largest collection of Canberra Seed Savers seeds for sale and has done so since 2019. If you’re looking for a range of Canberra Seed Savers seed, head to 2 Kingsley St in Acton and check out the shop and cafe while you’re there (carparking is available downstairs or around the corner on Marcus Clarke St.). Throughout the years, the Food Coop has supported us by providing an invaluable space for community events and informal gatherings, and by promoting our work and our seeds to the Canberra Community. As one of a handful of sister cooperatives in Canberra, we cherish the Food Coop as a Canberra community institution. In 2026, the Food Coop will be 50 years old, making it the longest continuously running food cooperative in Australia.
