TASTY TASTY DWARFIES!

WELL! Around 18 people who attended Canberra’s tomatoey event of the year (aka the annual DTP tasting) on Sunday, 24 February 2024 experienced a feast for the senses.

A tomatoey overload of the senses saw people drinking in the spectacular array of colours from pale yellow, orange, red through to deep burgundy. The tomatoey aromas got the tongues wagging and mouths drooling.

The tantalising trio (Jeanette washing, Joh photographing and Steve cutting), prepared bite sized morsels for those eager to taste. The delectable morsels included Adelaide Festival, Boronia, Catydid, Fred Tie Dye, Lemon Ice, Loxton Lass, Mallee Rose, Maralinga, Orange Cream, Rosella Crimson, Sneaky Sauce, Summertime Gold, Sweet Adelaide, Sweet Sue, Tasmanian Chocolate, Uluru Ochre, Wilpena, with those from the Gondwana series, and other dwarfs such as Pepper stripes and Little Red Riding hood thrown in as a bonus.

Topped ranking tomatoes as voted on on the day were:

  1. Uluru Ochre
  2. Adelaide Festival
  3. Fred Tie Dye
  4. Tasmania Chocolate
  5. Sweet Sue

Thankyou everyone for growing, bringing and tasting your tomatoes for the program! A very special thanks to Patrina Nuske-Small (original breeder of Dwarf Tomato Project varieties in Australia) who made the trip from Bemboka to join us, imparted more of her DTP knowledge to us and gifted us another array of seeds to try next year.
